Bekon's whole life, moment by moment
Bekon is more than the mascot and chief taster of DogRanking — he's an important part of my life. Here I collect the milestones from day one, with photos and stories.
Bekon is born
On 16 December 2023 a tiny miniature poodle came into the world. I didn't know him yet, he didn't have a name yet — and he was already about to become one of the most important parts of my life.
First days in his new home
Bekon came to me as a red ball of fur that fit in two hands. First naps on a cushion, first discoveries — including a cardboard box he instantly declared the best toy in the world.
Growing fast
More energy and personality every week. Games on the rug, first naps on the couch, and constant testing of what else can be chewed.
First time outside
Once fully vaccinated, the world opened up. First steps outside, sniffing every pebble, and discovering there's a whole lot to investigate out there.
First walks around town
A leash, the pavement, and the big world. Walks took longer from sniffing than from actual walking — but each one was a little adventure.
His first dog friends
Socialisation in full swing — first meetings with other dogs. Bekon, though the smallest of the bunch, jumped into it without a hint of shyness.
First trip to the mountains
Mountain lakes, meadows and a hammock. His first bigger trip proved Bekon is a dog made for adventure — running across alpine pastures as if he'd done it his whole life.
Almost all grown up
Half a year went by like one long walk. The ball of fur grew into a confident poodle with a thick red coat and an impeccable appetite.
Summer travels and the dog pack
Summer on the road: naps in the car between stops and running across sunlit meadows with the dog pack. Bekon had truly become the companion for every trip.
Here and now
Today Bekon is 2.5 years old, on a steady diet and with an ever-impeccable appetite. He tests everything we write about on DogRanking and reminds me every day why this site exists in the first place. To be continued — more moments will be added right here.
