Ruffwear Front Range Harness — review & rating

Rating: 90/100 · Outstanding · Updated: 2026-06-13 · DEMO — data pending verification

Is Ruffwear Front Range Harness a good choice?

The benchmark everyday Y-harness: the shape leaves the shoulders free (a dog has no collarbone — the shoulder hangs on muscle alone), the front clip aids gentle anti-pull training, and the padding is genuinely comfortable. Premium price, but it lasts and fits a huge size range.

Frequently asked questions

Why a Y-harness rather than a Norwegian (strap-across) one?

A dog has no collarbone — the shoulder blade hangs on muscle and needs freedom to move. The horizontal strap of a Norwegian harness crosses the shoulder and can restrict the stride; a Y-harness runs along the chest and clears the joint.

How do I size a harness?

Measure chest girth just behind the front legs and the neck at the base. A good fit lets two fingers under each strap, with the front strap clear of the armpits and throat.
